Angling and Water Safety

Over the last 20 years that we’ve been serving fisheries and anglers we are aware that there has been a significant increase in the awareness of the risks inherent with being in or on the water.

Many individual anglers are taking responsibility for their own safety by wearing a lifejacket whilst wading or in a boat and fishery owners and managers are recognising the duty of care that they owe to guests and visitors by providing and insisting that lifejackets are worn by anglers. (Difference between a lifejacket and a buoyancy aid).

Ensuring that lifejackets are fit for purpose is essential and whilst they should be carefully checked before every use they must regularly serviced.

Where there is standing or flowing water and there is a risk of an individual falling in, consideration should be given to having an appropriate means of rescue.
